ABOUT POP

PURSUIT OF PORTRAITS (PoP)
We are a New York City-based agency that connects a community of global creators via curated experiences, brand activations, shared narratives, content creation and community building.

OUR INFRASTRUCTURE
We are inspired by the natural behaviors within the community: creative nomads, digital natives, thought leaders and social beings. We offer a breadth of programing that include intimate to large-scale events and experiences, commissioned & collaborative projects, global talent and our social platforms where we feature talent, showcase innovation, measure partnerships and extend narratives.

OUR SERVICES
We have helped launch brands to acquire new customers, delivered world class campaign assets for our strategic partners and clients, and hosted co-branded events. Our services include scouting talent, influencer-driven campaigns, launch activations, crowdsourced content, photo shoots, Instagram-driven promotions and features to community building efforts.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
We strive to shape culture through the power of story. In an age where social influence and popularity is the new currency, we stand for cultural diversity, inclusivity in the marketplace, supporting people of color, gender equality and empowerment through uniqueness in personal and professional pursuits. THE GLOBAL PURSUIT

PARTNERSHIPS AT POP
Our commissioned partnerships are meticulously well-thought endeavors keeping in mind brand voice, business goals and marketing objectives. Every nuance of deliverable is vetted out to produce content that is not only flawless but relevant through use of technology, design, insight and execution.

We have flown photographers all over the globe and mobilized creatives locally in over 21 countries. We have sent teams to Reykjavik to cover a fashion show, to Madrid to test a latest smartphone for a YouTube series, to Shanghai for a private co-branded meet-up activation, to Austin for a campaign amplification for SXSW for a Mezcal brand to name a few. We’re based in New York City where we’ve covered music and cultural festivals and also curated experiential events bringing together photographers, models, taste-makers, trend-setters all in one space. Our latest partnership with a leading stock-image company took PoP to Indonesia, Malaysia, India and USA where we connected with thousands of creators; no matter now big or small the partnership, we’ve always taken on projects that we believe in and delivered on stories that are amplified by the power of shared and meaningful experiences.

CREATIVE PURSUITS AT POP
Fueled by a desire to embrace diversity and celebrate inclusivity, PoP has used social media and digital influence to positively impact and support all races and cultures, minorities, gender equality, the LGBTQ community, and all lifestyles, through the Pursuit of Portraits platforms. Our collaborations within the community are a testament to showcase the range of projects we undertake sheerly for the love of the culture and the pursuit of portraits.

Our past projects have ranged from in-person collaborations with emerging artists in over 21 countries, cultural festivals in New York City, working with LGBTQ creatives, much of our joint ventures also spotlight females, minorities, and people of color. We’ve also given back to the community by providing resources, seminars and free meet-ups. Till date PoP has hosted over 50 photography events in the US alone.


The true portrait captures intimacy; it reveals deep emotion and bold ambition. A portrait captures the soul — an enduring value. It is this never-ending pursuit that drives the creative’s passion, interests, and the ongoing refinement of their craft.

SAUNAK SHAH

Founder / CREative DIRECTOR

Saunak Shah is an Indian-born, New York City-based creative and the torchbearer behind PoP. With over 13 years in the advertising industry, Saunak has fueled his professional life as an Art Director. Saunak recently led the Global Pursuit over 1 year to 5 continents and over 21+ countries with PoP. His work focuses on the underlying narrative of people, the environments they live in and highlight themes around sense of place, people of color, fashion and identity.

KARSTON TANNIS

COMMUNITY LEAD

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Karston “Skinny” Tannis has always had an affinity for visual arts and exploration. Specializing in portraiture, Karston was introduced to photography and film through his participation in New York City’s BMX scene as a way to document the adventure. When Karston isn’t coasting on his BMX bike in Brooklyn, he can be found capturing the essence and energy of various socialites in numerous scenes and subcultures.


OUR STORY

Pursuit started with a goal to provide visibility to a diverse global audience. Much of what we have seen is driven by what the media dictates and somewhere along the road, real connections and meaningful storytelling was lost in the game for popularity, social influence and digital personas. Saunak Shah; PoP’s Founder and portrait photographer sought out on a mission to provide a safe space for creatives of all backgrounds and ethnicities, near and far with a drive to bring back the passion in the pursuit. Saunak quit his full-time job in 2017 as Creative Director to venture out on the Global Pursuit to 21 countries over 1 year.

Today, Pursuit of Portraits has met over 10 thousand people in-person and created impact (not just in impressions or buzzwords but IRL) by placing community-first; supporting talent over trend, diversity over monopoly and humanity over autonomy.
